BIO

Julieta Ascar is an artist and stage designer. Her work involves working in the disciplines of design and curatorship of art projects. Both architecture and art design are also present in her projects for theaters, heritage buildings and museums.


She studied Design at the School of Architecture, Design and Urbanism at the University of Buenos Aires and Arts at the Fine Arts College in Buenos Aires (Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes).


She began her career at the Teatro Municipal General San Martín in Buenos Aires in 1997.


Julieta created the new curtain design for the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires with Guillermo Kuitca.


She also has experience in cultural management. She worked as the artistic director at La Casa Nacional del Bicentenario (2017-2019), as well as in the Anfiteatro de Parque Centenario (2016).

In 2022, Existir La Vejez (performative and collective work) premiered at the Teatro Colón and received an award from the Performance Biennial. It was also performed during the Buenos Aires New Opera Festival at the Teatro San Martín.


This year she was commissioned by the Complejo Teatral de Buenos Aires to head the design and artwork for the scenic-architectural restoration of the Teatro Alvear. She is also currently working on several theater and film projects.

Cultural management

From 2017 to 2019 she was the artistic director in curatorship at La Casa del Bicentenario. There, she developed an experimental art project specially designed for young artists including the digital technology as a leitmotiv for their creations. Some exhibitions during this process were: Luz Instantánea 80 polaroids by Andrei Tarkovski, El dibujo mutante by Alberto Breccia, El artista secreto by Pablo Cedrón, El Mundo del Espectáculo by Lolo y Lauti (reawakening La Sociedad del Espectáculo, by G. Debord) and Bergman: uno en cien by Sweden Embassy. Earlier, in 2016, she was the artistic director at Anfiteatro del Parque Centenario, there she developed an artistic project focused on contemporary theatre. Many concerts, operas and ballet were represented on its stage.

The beginning

She began her professional career at Teatro Municipal General San Martín in Buenos Aires in 1997. She worked with many scenographers and art directors assisting them. Her master in craft were Hector Calmet, Tito Egurza, Roberto Plate, Edgardo Gimenez, Marta Albertinazzi, Carlos Gallardo, Agostino Pace, Jorge Lavelli, Alfredo Arias, Horacio Pigozzi, Jorge Sarudianski and María Julia Bertoto.
